The thought of floating in a closed tank of water may seem distressing for someone like you, our state-of-the-art tanks are however very spacious. You can still benefit from floating with some slight adjustments to make you more comfortable. Floating with the tank lid fully open is one option, or having the lid slightly ajar. The pod light can be left on and also the LED lights in the room, your visual senses won’t be fully deprived but you can still enjoy a fulfilled floating experience.
Although you may fall asleep, the chance of drowning is zero. This is a proven fact due to the amount of Epsom salts in the water making it impossible to drown or even roll over. Floating has been described as the equivalent of 6-8 hours of sleep so enjoy the rest!
Our float tanks use a 1-micron filter system. Hot tubs and swimming pools use a 20–30-micron filter system. To put this into context our tanks are much cleaner than hot tubs or swimming pools. The pods enter a 15-minute filtration, heating and cleaning cycle before and after each float session. The water goes through a photocatalytic UV cleaner and through the 1-micron filter system several times, meaning you can rest assured that your pod and Epsom salt solution are fresh and clean. We also have a no shoe policy in the float rooms. Cleanliness and hygiene are top of the list here at Recovery Float.
We advise you delay your float session if you have recently dyed your hair, had a spray tan or used self tan or had a tattoo. The chemicals from hair dye and self tan can impair the filtration system in the tank and the salty water could make a new tattoo very uncomfortable. Do not attend your session if you are under the influence of illegal substances of alcohol. Avoid floating if you have any open wounds, have recently experienced diarrhoea or vomiting or been diagnosed with an infectious disease.
If you would comfortably swim in a pool while on your period, then you can float with us. Don’t let mother nature get in the way of valuable self-care, period cramps can feel much less intense while floating also.
Ideally yes, this is to reduce any sensory distractions that may come from a swim-suit or shorts. If this makes you really uncomfortable then please feel free to wear your usual swim wear, the more comfortable you are the better experience you will have.
Firstly, congratulations! Floating has been proven to have huge benefits for expectant mums- more info found in ‘why float’ and our blogs. If you have been told you have a high risk pregnancy or you are still concerned please consult your midwife or GP.
Since magnesium is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial, floating in Epsom salts can help keep minor skin irritations clean. Salt water will irritate broken skin, always consult your dermatologist or GP if you have any concerns before floating.
10-15 mins before your booked in time. We would like time to introduce ourselves, show you around and get you settled into your surroundings. Most of all we like to provide all of our customers with tried and tested breathing techniques to boost your level of relaxation and enhance your experience.
Health and safety regulations mean that those under the age of 16 are not yet permitted to float.
Although the tanks are roomy, they’re not that roomy. For privacy there is only one tank per room but you can book in at the same time and still share your experience. Our beautiful reflection suit also provides a space for you to relax with your friend or partner and chat about your experience over a warm or cold drink on us.
Being too relaxed? On a serious note floating has been around since the 1950s in the USA and as long as all advice given is followed there has been no negative side effects documented.
We have choices of 60 or 90 minute sessions. This actually means 60 or 90 minutes float time in the tank and does not include shower time or time in the reflection suite.
